Let’s Talk Fertility & Lack of Knowledge

But that wasn’t gonna be me. And now it is not also for most women. We have decided to take control of our lives and not allow anyone to dictate our goals anymore. In my specific case, I decided since High School; I was not going to have babies until I had met some specific milestones for myself. My path was going to look more like this: Graduate High School. Go to College. Move to a new city. Start my own business. Stablish my business. Get Married. Grow my business. Have a baby. Adopt another baby. Keep growing my business.

I decided since then that I was going to be holding off on motherhood until it felt right for me. I wanted to be able and give my kids the stability and time they needed from me; for that, I needed to have flexible schedules and a good income.

But because I’m an immigrant and I lacked a lot of privileges, which U.S citizens are born to, my timeline got hugely delayed. I’m now in my mid-thirties, and it wasn’t until now that I feel ready to do this.

Do you know what’s the most common question at family parties and friend’s get-togethers, when in your 30’s and happily married?

Yes! When are you having a baby? The way our society is wired is by setting a set of steps we are supposed to follow, to ensure we are on the path to success: Graduate High School. Go to College. Start working on your field. Get Married. Buy a House. Have kids.

So, I find myself trying to conceive (TTC) for over a year now, and it has not happened yet. Did you know that when you go to your OBGYN, they won’t start testing for fertility until you have been TTC for more than a year? And If you tell them you have been pregnant before they will not even consider any testing until maybe after two years.

I had! I was pregnant in 2016 and had a miscarriage at 11 weeks. It was a very traumatic experience. Back then, I didn’t feel ready; I was missing things on my checklist. I haven’t even moved out of Miami yet, and my company was in the beginning stage (still is). Miscarrying a baby when you have already set your mind to welcome him/her, and told your closest friends and family was devastating. But I took that as an opportunity to keep working on my checklist, and once again held off to be a mom.

Finally, I thought I had some of my ducks in a row, and I’m definitely in a place where I can take care of my kids myself. So, we have been TTC with no success, and I started to worry, we decided to consult an endocrinologist and so started testing. Unfortunately, our insurance doesn’t cover any fertility testing.

We started with my husband’s testing since it was the cheapest. He is in good conditions! Then my doctor recommended to test my Thyroid hormones first, and we found a hormonal imbalanced, so I had to wait until they are back to normal to figure if that was the issue. A few months later they went back to normal, but nothing still.

Next step more hormone testing this was going to cost a lot more (around $1,500 ); and out of God’s mercy with our pockets, MODERN FERTILITY approached me, to try their product. They provide hormonal at-home testing at such an affordable price ($150) 10% of the actual price in any fertility clinic. I immediately thought this was an opportunity sent from heaven.

I actually needed these test, and the company stands precisely for cases like mine. Lack of Knowledge! I waited this long thinking I had the time to wait, and that is not my case, after the testing I found out my ovary reserve hormones are low, meaning my window is closing very fast and it will take longer for me to conceive naturally. It’s not impossible; it only takes longer, and every month I’m losing more eggs. With that information now I have a choice to make. Either keep trying or take the IVF route.

I decided to share this information with you even when I could’ve been more vague on my post, and just tell you to go check out this company. But I wanted to share my story with you, because whether you are on your twenties and not thinking about having kids just yet, or you have been trying for a few months you need to be informed. You need to know where you stand and your chances to conceive in the future.

You have many options to hold off in motherhood without risking your chances of not experiencing it at all, like freezing your healthy eggs. This company is putting that information on your hands because we have the right to plan our future ahead. I would love for you to have that piece of knowledge in your hands while you still have time. If I would’ve known this, I would have started trying sooner or maybe even had my eggs frozen while I accomplished my goals.

If you do want to start testing even if you are not married yet, just to understand your body and mood behavior better. Use this link: MODERN FERTILITY to get $20 off and trust me, this is not just any media campaign. This is a powerful tool for us women.
